My big night out

I’ve never really done a ‘get the look’ style post before but I was at a ‘do’ the other day so I decided to give it a bash.

The ‘do’ was the prestigious Belfast Telegraph Woman of the Year awards at the Ramada Encore Hotel. Thankfully I wasn’t up for an award, rather I just attended as part of my day job.

It was black tie so thanks to my Star by Julien Macdonald dress from Debenhams I looked like this…

And my hair and make-up looked like this…

Firstly, a major shout-out to BeauHaus hair and beauty on Upper Arthur Street in Belfast who gave me a stylish up do, a bit of a twist on a classic and, a major plus, it didn’t fall out. I’m always paranoid that my hair will come down once it’s put up.

My make-up was actually very simple. I was wearing that much of my favourite fake tan that I didn’t feel the need for much cover on my face. I added a bit of Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer under my eyes and gave myself a spritz of Dior Airfix Matte Touche. To finish a bit of my favourite Benefit Lollitint to add some shine to my cheeks.

I wore false eyelashes that I had applied for myself for the very first time EVER. I chose these natural looking beauties from Eyelure because I wanted a natural looking boost over the full-on drag queen. I have to say I was delighted with them – they were comfortable and stayed put all night – and it was a late one!

There is a lot of fuss involved in a black-tie do. You have to find the dress, figure out what you’re doing with your hair, if you want tan and how to do something special with your make-up. If you get it right though you can forget about what you look like and concentrate on having a good time.
